Riopel leads Eagles past Cougars

PRESQUE ISLE – Sarah Riopel scored with about 30 seconds remaining to lift Greater Houlton Christian Academy to a 47-45 schoolgirl basketball victory over Katahdin of Stacyville on Wednesday night.

Riopel and Kasi Parker each finished with 17 points for the Eagles.

Olivia McNally topped the Cougars with 16 points, and Alisha Majkowski added 10.

Hampden 4, Presque Isle 3

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Nick Pease scored two goals in the first 21 seconds of the game as Hampden Academy edged Presque Isle.

Mitch Dumais and Mike Mourkas each added a goal in the second period while Josh Tardiff tallied two assists for Hampden. Jacob Ward made 28 saves on 31 shots for the 2-1 Broncos.

Dylan Collins, Brennen Shaw and Brandon Daigle each netted a goal while Jason Martin had two assists for Presque Isle. Josh McFarline stopped 18 of 22 shots for the 2-2-1 Wildcats.

Boys basketball

Houlton 45, Presque Isle 28

At Houlton, Ryan Hill led a trio of double-figure scorers with 16 points as the defense-minded Shiretowners prevailed.

Josh Beals netted 12 points and Parker Brown added 11 for Houlton.

Russ Mortland tossed in a game-best 15 points for Presque Isle.

Thomas Anderson sparked the Cougars with 18 points, and Ethan Qualey added 11.

Zach Straubel paced Greater Houlton Christian Academy with 17 points, and Chad Duff contributed 13.
