AUGUSTA – Maine unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percent in November as more people looked for work.

The state Labor Department says Maine’s unemployment rate rose from 4.8 percent in October to 4.9 percent in November. The comparable national unemployment rate was 4.7 percent.

Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman says Maine’s jobless rate went up as the number of Maine residents looking for work outweighed an increase in the number of jobs.

Between October and November, the number of nonagricultural jobs increased by 1,500.
