PLYMOUTH – An 84-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Sunday in a single-vehicle rollover on Route 7.

Gertrude Kirkpatrick of Plymouth was driving her 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan on a bridge over Interstate 95 just before 5 p.m., when she encountered a line of oncoming vehicles, one of which failed to dim its headlights as it approached her, according to Trooper Joshua D’Angelo of the state police.

As Kirkpatrick moved her vehicle to the right edge of the roadway to make room for the oncoming traffic, one of its wheels got caught in the snow, causing the vehicle to pull off the road and into a guardrail. The vehicle then tipped onto the driver side, trapping the woman inside.

D’Angelo said that Plymouth emergency medical personnel freed Kirkpatrick from her van. Hydraulic extrication equipment was not needed, he said.

Kirkpatrick was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for evaluation.

D’Angelo said Kirkpatrick was wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred. He estimated damage to her vehicle at $5,000.
