PORTLAND – As if getting arrested on Christmas Day wasn’t bad enough, a Portland woman faces additional charges in an assault on a jail officer.

Authorities say Jessica Blindenbacher, 37, stabbed an intake officer in the head with a pencil that had been loaned to her while trying to arrange for bail at the Cumberland County Jail.

Chief Deputy Kevin Joyce says that because of the altercation, Blindenbacher was charged with aggravated assault in addition to the original charges of domestic violence assault and failure to submit to arrest. She was released on $3,040 cash bail on Wednesday.

The corrections officer, Richard Ireland, was treated and released from the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
