Even a house of worship is not sacred in the eyes of vandals. Earlier this month, vandals shot about five holes through two stained-glass windows and a third window in the Wellington Evangelical Community Church.

Investigator Allen Emerson, who is leading the vandalism inquiry, said the holes were probably made by a BB gun. Bette Pratt, wife of church pastor Levi Pratt, said Wednesday the vandalism was discovered Friday night when parishioners gathered to go caroling. She said the vandalism had to have occurred between Dec. 15 and 22. The church was cleaned on Dec. 15 and was OK then, she said. Church services were not held on Dec. 16 because of a snowstorm. In addition to the window damage, Emerson said someone had removed half a tank of heating oil from an outside tank at the church. (Diana Bowley, BDN)

A Maine State Police trooper was dispatched to a domestic assault in Glenburn early Wednesday morning, but ended up in a car chase with another individual after pulling up behind a Corinth man who had a suspended license and was out on bail.

Charles Michaud Jr., 21, failed to pull over when Trooper Seth Edwards came up behind him with his cruiser lights flashing, and instead accelerated his 1997 Chevy Malibu.

Edwards chased Michaud along the Hudson Road for just over two miles until Michaud failed to negotiate a corner on Roundstone Drive and slid off the road. Michaud was charged with eluding police, a Class C felony, and violation of his bail conditions and was transported to Penobscot County Jail. During his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Wednesday his bail was set at $500. He remained in jail Wednesday night.

A thief or thieves broke into a warehouse on the Perry Road in Bangor Wednesday morning and took copper supplies totaling approximately $6,000, Bangor police Detective Sgt. Chip Hodges said.

The theft was reported just after 8 a.m. Wednesday but could have occurred any time between when Hahnel Bros. Co., formerly known as Bangor Roofing, closed Friday and opened again on Wednesday morning.

Copper sheets, nails and coiled copper were taken after a door to the warehouse was forced open, Hodges said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
