Sangerville firefighters request new rescue truck at meeting

SANGERVILLE – A request for a new rescue truck will be presented to the town’s budget committee for consideration next month.

Fire Chief Charles Beane presented a proposal Thursday to selectmen for the purchase of a new truck funded by firefighters.

Beane said after the meeting that his department is willing to raise the estimated $35,000 for the new truck, which would belong to the town.

The new truck, which would be taken on all calls, would replace the department’s 1981 box van, which is now too small, according to Beane.

“It’s just that we’ve outgrown it,” Beane said of the retrofitted box van.

Firefighters would like to make a $10,000 deposit on a new truck and finance the rest through voter approval. The old van could be placed out for bid, and the proceeds from the sale could help offset the cost, according to Beane.

In other business:

. Selectmen on Thursday let an agreement lapse for an all-terrain vehicle access route on the Silvers Mills Road from the Dexter-Sangerville line. In May, the board approved creation of the access route until Dec. 31, 2007. Since no one requested an extension, no action was taken.

It took selectmen about 20 minutes to approve the minutes with some amendments requested by board Chair Lance Burgess, who alleged the minutes were “terribly slanted.” Selectman Charles Cleaves declined to sign the minutes with the amendments. As approved earlier this month, all of the meetings are now being tape-recorded.
