SALEM, Mass. – A Massachusetts woman accused of shaking her 9-month-old daughter to death is scheduled to be arraigned in Salem Superior Court on a murder charge.
Jennifer Ward of Peabody was arrested last week at her parents’ home in Kennebunk, Maine, after a grand jury indicted her in the death of her daughter Jocelyn. Authorities say the child died from shaken-baby syndrome on Nov. 21.
Ward has waived extradition from Maine and was expected in Salem on Friday.
The Massachusetts Department of Social Services says Jocelyn was taken from her 37-year-old mother in March and placed in foster care because of a report of neglect.
Ward completed a drug treatment and parenting education program and in July was granted custody. Lynn Juvenile Court dismissed the care and protection order in September.
