Husson students host health fair for BCS

BANGOR – Bangor Christian School students and parents gathered recently in the gymnasium for a health fair that focused on physical activity and nutrition.

Heidi Frost, Leah Landry, Jaime Keiper, Kathy Nautel, Cynthia Lewis, Christine Hanna and Michelle Paradis, senior nursing students from Husson College, sponsored the event and display booths featuring the importance of oral health, proper nutrition, portion sizing, limited television time and exercise.

The nursing students interacted with Bangor Christian’s middle school and high school students, answering questions and offering handout materials from their display booths.

Representatives from LifeFlight of Maine and Healthy Maine Partnerships were on hand to share information on things such as injury prevention; local walking, biking and cross-country skiing trails; and the serious health hazards associated with drug use.

Sensei Chris Holbrook also was on hand to give Jukung Sho Kempo demonstrations with several of his martial arts students.

The nursing students rounded out the health fair by reserving a portion of the gym for students to demonstrate their impressive Hula-Hoop and jump-rope skills. The event was well-received and Bangor Christian’s teachers, staff and students offered a special thank you to the Husson College senior nursing students who made it possible.
