60-foot buzzer-beater gives Monks victory

WATERVILLE – Eric Friend hit a 60-foot shot at the buzzer as the Monks of Standish stunned host Colby College and pulled out an 85-83 men’s basketball victory Thursday night.

Colby had led 77-70 with 1:21 to go, but St. Joseph’s pulled ahead 82-80 with seven seconds remaining on an Alberto Rue 3-pointer.

The Mules’ Mark Gaudet was fouled attempting a 3 with 0.9 seconds left and made all three free throws to put Colby up one.
