Ashley was born in 1994. She describes herself as “smart, kind, caring and loving.” Ashley enjoys a variety of activities, including reading, shopping and listening to music. Ashley loves animals and is currently volunteering at a local animal shelter.
Ashley says she likes school and does well there. She attends a day treatment program that helps her stay on task and complete her assignments with more one-on-one attention than a public school can provide. Ashley says her favorite subjects are science and social studies. She likes to “check things out” in science class. Ashley’s favorite books are from the Magic Tree House series or the Harry Potter books. She lists mystery and fantasy books as her top choices from the library.
The best family for Ashley would be one that is patient and understanding. Ashley has had many losses in her life. She will need more time to transition to a home in order for her to trust the family and to feel safe. Ashley has challenges that she continues to work on. She said, “I want a family that will love me for who I am not for what I do.”
Ashley is one of 137 children currently in Maine Department of Health & Human Service’s care who is seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
