Cherries and prunes

In the letter, “Media skewing Iraq news” (BDN, Dec. 6) Joel West complains about all the negative reporting regarding Iraq. I would only like to point out that initially the reporting from Iraq was essentially all positive and it took some time before the White House and Pentagon could no longer control the movement of reporters to reveal the down side of that conflict.

West would like to compare the Korean War with the war in Iraq, but that would be like comparing cherries and prunes. As evidence accumulated, it is now clear that the Iraq war was started shrouded in lies and deceit. And the misinformation from the White House still continues.

Yes, it is possible to bring that conflict to a sensible resolution, without leaving that area in turmoil and us holding the bag, but George W. Bush and his team are simply not capable of accomplishing that. To bring the war in Iraq to sensible closure could take place sooner then after the election of 2008, but that would require that the president and vice president be impeached.
