PERRY – Charlotte, Pembroke and Perry will meet this month to explore the idea of combining the services of town clerk, treasurer and tax collector.

Public meetings have been scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Perry Elementary School, and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Pembroke Elementary School.

A third meeting involving all three towns has been scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the VFW Hall in Pembroke.

The information meetings have been planned in advance of the March town meetings when voters will decide formally whether to join together in the delivery of services. At the information meetings, selectmen will present the cooperative work done so far, the benefits of joining together and the projected costs to each town.

The question before voters in each of the three towns will be whether to change the practice of electing the town clerk, tax collector and treasurer to appointing these positions. If voters approve the change, a combined committee of selectmen from the three towns would hire and share full-time staff, and rent, buy or build a central facility to serve the three towns.
