Bangor man charged with pilfering lobsters

A Bangor man possibly with a taste for seafood was arrested Monday by Bangor police when he walked out of Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street allegedly with a bag of lobsters worth $34 hidden in his coat.

Richard Levesque, 55, was arrested and charged with theft after employees reported seeing Levesque remove the price tags from the bag of lobsters and hide the bag in his jacket.

Lobster was selling Tuesday at the supermarket for $12.99 per pound for crustaceans weighing less than 11/4 pounds and $14.99 per pound for those heavier.

He was taken to Penobscot County Jail, then released on bail, according to Bangor police. (Judy Harrison, BDN)

No one was injured in a four-car fender bender that happened near noon Monday, but the accident tied up traffic on State Street in front of Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Bangor police.

The chain reaction began about 12:50 p.m. when Robert J. Hogan, 74, of Lincoln, who was in the southbound lane, failed to stop in time to avoid hitting the car in front of him that was stopped at the light on the corner of State and Hancock streets.

His 2003 Dodge pickup truck struck the four-door Chevrolet sedan driven by Heather J. Somers, 26, of Newburgh. Somers’ car was pushed into the rear of the 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Ralph W. Cobb, 79, of Hampden. Cobb’s truck was pushed into a pickup truck driven by Deane E. Harris, 75, of Bradley.

Somers’ car was the only one that had to be towed, according to police. Her car had an estimated $5,000 in damage while damage to Hogan’s truck was estimated at $1,500.

Damage to both other trucks was estimated to be $500 or less.

No tickets were issued. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
