RUMFORD – Operations are back to normal at the NewPage paper mill in Rumford after a chlorine leak forced the evacuation of part of a building and sent two people to the hospital.

Emergency crews responded Tuesday afternoon when chlorine dioxide was released into the air after a forklift accidentally hit a gas line. About 50 people were evacuated for about an hour.

Mill spokesman Tony Lyons said one of the workers was treated and released from the hospital, while the other was kept overnight for observation.
