Fry’s late heroics help UMF men tip Plymouth St.

FARMINGTON – Sean Fry scored seven of his team-high 23 points in the last 1:57 Thursday night to lift the University of Maine-Farmington to a 73-70 men’s basketball victory over Plymouth State.

Fry also pulled down 11 rebounds for the Beavers.

Matt St. John scored all of his 19 points in the first half on the strength of five 3-pointers. Isaac Hutchinson contributed 10 points for UMF.

Jason O’Keefe poured in 26 points to pace the Panthers.

At Presque Isle, Ronald Spencer hit six free throws in the final minute as the Owls held off the Clippers.

Spencer finished with 13 points and Allan Stroud had a team-high 17 points. James Gregory netted 15 points, followed by Felix Agboola with 11 and Thomas Wire with 10.

Charles Calligan led all scorers with 19 points for UM-Machias. Adam Mauro and Eric Righter each added 16.

Colby 73, Husson 70

At Waterville, Mark Gaudet of Bingham hit all four of his free throws in the final 24 seconds to help Colby College edge Husson at Wadsworth Gym.

The visiting Eagles trailed 37-27 at halftime, but tied the game at 67 with 1:35 left. Colby retook the lead, but Husson cut it to a single point on Scott Kissinger’s 3-pointer with 14 seconds left. However, Gaudet didn’t miss from the line and the Eagles missed two 3-point shots in the closing seconds.

Gaudet, Adam Choice and Artie Cutrone each scored 16 points for the White Mules. Choice also had 10 rebounds and Michael Russell scored 11 points.

Sheraud Lee led the Husson of Bangor with 15 points and Kissinger scored 14. Nick Perras had 12 points. Sophomore guard Brock Bradford of Kenduskeag dished out a game-high six assists.

At Standish, Saint Joseph’s College won its third straight game as junior Elbie Murphy had 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Ray Eatmon had 17 points and three blocks for the 5-1 Monks. Alberto Rue had 13 points and Scott Vachon had 10 points and seven assists.

The Albertus Magnus Falcons fall to 0-10.

Women’s basketball

UMPI 62, UMM 18

At Presque Isle, Erica Davis tossed in 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to power the Owls to victory.

Megan Korhonen and Julie Wescott each chipped in with 12 points for the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Wescott had a team-high nine rebounds.

Sara Wells paced the Clippers with 10 points and six rebounds.

At Standish, the University of New England jumped out to a 20-point lead at the half en route to its sixth victory.

Alli Gamache paced the winners of Biddeford with 20 points and five assists. Carrie Bunnell added 14 points and Marissa Hesketh netted 10.

Carolyn Freeman led Saint Joseph’s with 14 points, Allison Miner added 11 and Alyen Ludwig put in 10.

At Farmington, Caitlyn Laflin of Farmingdale scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Farmington past Plymouth State University.

Amanda Byrne of Winslow scored 13 points for the UMF Beavers. Erin Porter of Bangor added 11.

Lauren Daniels and Laura Kent each had a double-double for the PSU Panthers. Daniels had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Kent had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Kanie had 12 points, Karly Gray 10, and Kayla Morin 10 as well.
