Minutemen’s Barnett likes extra minutes

GUILFORD – Cory Barnett scored six of his 15 points in overtime, including the game-winning basket with seven seconds left to lift the Stearns boys basketball team to a 53-52 win over the Piscataquis Community Pirates Thursday night.

Tyler Richards scored 13 points and Brett Baker added 10 for the Minutemen.

Nolan Lovell scored 14, Corbin Shufelt had 11, and Brandon London added 10 for the Piscataquis Pirates.

At Husson College in Bangor, Brett Bradford matched personal season highs with 29 points and seven 3-point goals as Bangor Christian pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Bradford had nine points and Tyler Alexander seven in the final period, when the Patriots outscored Katahdin of Stacyville 21-11. Bangor Christian also made 7 of 8 free-throw tries in the fourth quarter.

Alexander finished with 11 points.

Ethan Qualey paced Katahdin with 15 points, while Tom Anderson added 11.

Nathan Peirce paced the Tigers with 17 points while Gavin Cote added 15.

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Mike Epley had a goal and an assist as Houlton-Hodgdon edged John Bapst of Bangor.

Craig Buxton and Lowell Matthews also scored for the Blackhawks, who never trailed in the match after taking a 2-0 lead. Chris Maguire and Zach Chase each added an assist for the winners.

Casey Hull and Nikki Mitchell each had a goal and an assist for John Bapst.

Malik Abouleish made 18 saves on 20 shots in goal for 5-3 Houlton-Hodgdon. Derek Duff made 23 saves on 26 shots for 6-3 John Bapst.

Orono 2, Gardiner 2 (OT)

At Alfond Arena in Orono Thursday, Jordan Caradonna’s goal off a Klinton Peckman assist with 2:02 to play tied things up for the Gardiner Tigers, but neither team could poke a shot through in overtime.

Bass Chadwick scored the first goal for the 4-2-2 Tigers on a Peckman assist. Anthony Plourde made 38 saves on 40 shots.

Brandon Paul scored both goals for the 3-6-1 Red Riots. Kirk Francis, Mark Cloutier, and Nathan Curtis each had assists. David Eugley made 29 saves on 31 shots.

At Greenville, the Lakers jumped out to a 29-12 halftime lead en route to the win.

Saige Weeks tossed in 18 points to spark Greenville.
