Trask, Brock, Sanders spark Bears’ victory

ASHLAND – Brad Trask buried five 3-points on his way to a game-high 25 points as the Easton boys basketball team pulled away for a pointworthy 70-59 Class D victory over Ashland Thursday night.

Nate Sanders and Jeremy Brock chipped in with 16 points apiece for the Bears, who outscored the Hornets 16-10 in the fourth quarter.

Lucas Belanger led four Hornets in double figures with 14 points. Jeremy Tarr and Justin Belanger each added 12 and Tyler Cote 10.

At Husson College in Bangor, Brett Bradford matched personal season highs with 29 points and seven 3-point goals as Bangor Christian pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Bradford had nine points and Tyler Alexander seven in the final period, when the Patriots outscored Katahdin of Stacyville 21-11. Bangor Christian also made 7 of 8 free-throw tries in the fourth quarter.

Alexander finished with 11 points.

Ethan Qualey paced Katahdin with 15 points, while Tom Anderson added 11.

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Mike Epley had a goal and an assist as Houlton-Hodgdon edged John Bapst of Bangor.

Craig Buxton and Lowell Matthews also scored for the Black Hawks, who never trailed in the match after taking a 2-0 lead. Chris Maguire and Zach Chase each added an assist for the winners.

Casey Hull and Nikki Mitchell each had a goal and an assist for John Bapst.

Malik Abouleish made 18 saves on 20 shots in goal for 5-3 Houlton-Hodgdon. Derek Duff made 23 saves on 26 shots for 6-3 John Bapst.

At Red Barry Gymnasium in Bangor, Amy Hackett tossed in 19 points and eight other Ram players had at least two points as Bangor topped the Broncos.

Meagan Doucette added nine points, while Hilary Sivik and Breianna Tocci had eight points and Hilary Sivik had six, the latter two players coming off the bench.

The Rams used a 12-2 run at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second to take command, although Hampden cut the lead to 38-30 early in the fourth quarter.

Bangor responded with two Sivik baskets and a Hackett hoop to go up 44-30.

The Rams weren’t able to convert as many turnovers as they normally do, but their halfcourt offense clicked to the tune of a 24-for-43 (55.8 percent) shooting effort. Hackett was 7-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line. Doucette, a sophomore, made four of her seven field-goal attempts.

Hackett had six rebounds and fellow senior captain Allie Clukey had five.

Freshman Michaela Stephenson led Hampden with nine points and Katie Foster added eight. Rylee Rawcliffe had five rebounds.

Rockland 54, Maranacook 35

At Rockland, three Tigers scored in double figures to spearhead the victory over Maranacook of Readfield.

Dana Clark, Aly Nolan and Kelsey Sirois led the balanced attack with 10 points apiece.

Brittany Miles scored a game-high 15 points for Maranacook.
