Allan was born in 1997. He is a kind boy with a bright smile who loves baseball and has enjoyed playing recreational ball. Allan can find many things to do outdoors. He loves playing outside and enjoying nature, is very creative and likes making cabins. He has a great imagination and usually will use it to play and create adventures for himself outside.
One of Allan’s strengths is being helpful. He assists with chores around the house. He loves animals and is good with them. He has taken horseback riding lessons and enjoyed this activity. Allan enjoys drawing dragons, building things and working with wood. He likes Animal Planet and SpongeBob on television but would rather be outside.
Allan does fairly well in school. He has some support in school to assist with his academics and benefits from one-on-one time to work on math and reading. He does well with prompts to accomplish some tasks. His favorite class during the school day is gym.
Allan is thriving in his current foster home and does well with the younger grandchildren who come to visit. Some important considerations for Allan would be providing him with structure, good supervision and nurturing. He does have weekly phone conversations and yearly visits with his birth father and would like this to continue.
An adoption subsidy is available to the most appropriate family. Allan is one of the 151 children now in Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family. The majority of those children have been waiting for permanency for more than a year.
There are 2,176 children in the state of Maine’s care and 1,176 licensed foster homes. These statistics speak to the need for more foster and adoptive families for these deserving children. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine Department of Health and Human Services to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
