GORHAM – Maine’s attorney general says a Gorham police officer was justified in using deadly force during a car chase in October.
An investigation shows that Officer Dean Hannon fired his gun after chasing Andy Luong at high speed. Before the chase, Luong and another man, Seiha Srey, had gotten into an argument in Saco that resulted in gunfire. Srey was shot dead, and Luong jumped into a car and sped away.
A short time later, Luong and police exchanged gunfire.
The state’s investigation shows Luong died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot from an assault rifle into his mouth. The attorney general also says the use of deadly force by Hannon was legally justified. Investigations are required in all cases in which police use deadly force.
