Bowdoin beats Husson 72-55 Polar Bears post best start at 12-2

BRUNSWICK – Mike Hauser and Paul Sellew nailed 3-pointers during a 12-2 run in the second half that snapped a 47-47 tie and enabled Bowdoin College to equal its best start in school history at 12-2 with a 72-55 men’s basketball win over Husson College Tuesday night.

All five Bowdoin starters finished in double figures led by Jordan Fliegel’s 18 points. Andrew Sargeantson and Kyle Jackson had 13 apiece, Sellew finished with 12 and Hauser contributed 10.

Hauser had five assists and three steals and Sargeantson had four assists and four steals.

Brock Bradford’s 16 points and game-high seven rebounds paced Husson. Sheraud Lee had 13 points and three assists; Matt MacKenzie had nine points and Blaine Meehan had a team-high four assists.

Husson had 21 turnovers.

At Boston, Elbie Murphy and Chris Davis led five Monks in double figures with 16 points apiece as they rolled to the victory.

St. Joseph’s trailed 49-43 at the half then went on a 50-24 scoring run to pull away.

Davis also had 14 rebounds; Alberto Rue netted 15 points, Scot Vachon 14 and Alonso Davis 11 to go with 11 rebounds for St. Joseph’s of Standish. Mitch Ouellet of Fort Kent grabbed 12 boards.

At Farmington, Jon Pierce scored 16 second-half points as the Jumbos of Medford, Mass., rallied past the Beavers.

Pierce finished with 22 points, Jake Weitzen 15, and Aaron Gallant of Bangor contributed 14, including a 6-of-8 performance from the floor.

Isaac Hutchinson paced UMF with 18 points, Sean Fry registered 11 points and 10 rebounds, Matt St. John added 10 points and Andrew Dean had nine points and six assists.
