Brewer skates past Red Riots

BREWER – Nick Risser and Dylan Fitzpatrick each had two goals and one assist while Mike Kotredes knocked in three goals as the Brewer hockey team won its ninth consecutive game with an 8-3 victory over Orono at T.J. Ryan Arena Wednesday night.

Ryan Nadeau had a goal and two assists and Chris Lopez one goal and three assists for 9-1 Brewer. Eric White had 20 saves on 23 shots.

Brandon Paul notched a goal and assist for 4-7-1 Orono while Nathan Curtis and Chad Evinger added a goal apiece. David Eugley stopped 36 of 44 shots.

John Bapst 3, Hampden 1

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Ryan Hayes, Matt Duplisea and Chase Huckestein scored one goal apiece as the Crusaders beat the Broncos.

Connor Scofield and Derrick Antworth provided assists for 7-3 John Bapst of Bangor. Nate Kuneman made 13 saves on 14 shots.

Josh Tardiff scored off an Andrew Brown assist for 3-6 Hampden Academy. Jacob Ward made 25 saves on 28 shots.

Girls basketball

Calais 63, Lee Acad. 61

At Calais, Courtney Hill scored eight points in a one-minute span in the fourth quarter as the Blue Devils rallied for the victory over previously unbeaten Lee Academy.

Hill sparked the late rally with a conventional three-point play, connected on a 3-pointer on Calais’ next possession then sank two free throws with 1:01 left to give the winners a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Hill finished with 15 points and six assists for Calais, which trailed 51-42 entering the fourth quarter.

Kelli Cross scored a game-high 19 points for the Devils, who avenged a 30-point loss to the Pandas, while Nicole Osborne notched 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Karin Bird sparked Lee with 18 points. Aarika Ritchie and Amanda Gifford added 13 apiece.

At Dexter, April Davis scored five first-quarter points as Stearns of Millinocket built a lead it would never relinquish and added four free throws in the fourth quarter to help hold off Dexter.

Samantha Lyons finished with a game-high 12 points for Stearns and Davis added her nine.

Michelle Chapman’s eight points, all on free throws led Dexter.

At Bingham Tuesday, Brandon Osgood scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to help Valley hold off rallying Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford.

Curtis Miller had 21 points for Valley and Scott Hunnewell scored 11. Trevor Miller had eight points and nine rebounds and Osgood grabbed eight rebounds.

Brandon London had a game-high 31 points for PCHS, including seven 3-pointers. Bryan Russell contributed 14 points and Nolan Lovell had 13.
