Tourism meeting to stress alliances

BANGOR – Registration is open for the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism. This year’s conference will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Bangor Civic Center, beginning with a continental breakfast.

The conference theme is “It’s All Right Here,” with a focus on working collaboratively and forming partnerships to provide Maine’s visitors with an unparalleled experience.

“Our goal is to continue to grow the industry, particularly through strengthening strategic partnerships and alliances,” said Patricia Eltman, Maine’s tourism director.

Dr. Lalia Rach from the New York University Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management is the conference keynote speaker.

Her talk, “Eight Trends for ’08” is on preparing to weather the change forecast to impact business in 2008. The session will feature an informative and entertaining overview of eight economic, social and industry issues that will influence business success this year.

Afternoon workshops include “Customer Service: The Little Things that Make a Big Difference,” “How to Build Upon Connection to Place,” “Inter-regional Itineraries,” “Business Resources and Development: Where to Turn for Answers and Assistance” and “Identifying your Target Market.”

Eltman is hoping that the more affordable cost to attend this year’s conference will enable more businesses and organizations to attend and network with their peers.

Registration for the event can be completed online. The early bird cost is $50, $25 for each additional person from the same organization or business. For complete conference and registration details, visit www.mainetourismconference.com or call 797-9228.
