CARIBOU – The Caribou High School cheering team recorded an average of 106.5 to place first in the Aroostook League Cheering Championships Friday night at Caribou High School.

Houlton was second with a 102.8 average, followed by Central Aroostook of Mars Hill (101.8), Presque Isle (97.15) and Van Buren (75.3).

Each team performed its routine twice. The placing was based on an average of the scores from the first and second rounds.

Coach Brandi Makepeace’s Vikings scored 104.8 points in the first round of the competition and went up to a 108.2 in the second round.

Caribou was sixth at last Saturday’s Penobscot Valley Conference championships with an average of 99.85.

The Vikings’ team members are Erin Susee, Amber Pelletier, Krista Albert, Jessica Ouimet, Samara Cyr, Hannah Saunders, Ashley Johndro, Janelle Kernan, Taylor Willette, Chelsea St. Peter, Megan Jandreau, Megan Bechard, Sarah Peterson, Hannah Saucier, Elainee Norris, Kyle McEwen and Jessica Zbylut.

Caribou also won team awards for best dance, best motions and best team jumps. Susee shared the top individual tumbling honors with Rachel Donahue of Central Aroostook.

The Shiretowners received team honors for best stunts and best team tumbling. Houlton’s Marcy Hernandez and Presque Isle’s Anna Harris were named the top tumblers.

Van Buren won the Spirit Award.
