Want to get out your tux and your ball gown for a most worthy cause?

Sue Mackey Andrews, co-chairwoman of the Womancare Capital Campaign Committee, invites you to attend the first Black Tie Ball, Valentine’s for a New Day, from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Penquis Higher Education Center on Mayo Street in Dover-Foxcroft.

Proceeds will support the campaign for a new building for this organization based in Dover-Foxcroft that assists people in Piscataquis County who are affected by domestic abuse.

Tickets are $50 per person and are available at Womancare as well as at local vendors, including Mr. Paperback in Dover-Foxcroft and Dexter; Hudson Avenue Florist in Guilford; Indian Hill Trading Post in Greenville; and Heidi Ann’s Florist in Pittsfield.

At this gala, Mackey Andrews wrote, you will be able to “waltz, foxtrot, tango and swing” to the music of Shane Ellis and the Foxcroft Academy Alumni Jazz Band, as well as enjoy “refreshments including tortes, classy desserts, vegetable trays and scrumptious rolls.”

The benefit is underwritten by Hardwood Products Co. LLC-Puritan Medical Products Co. LLC, Mayo Regional Hospital, C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Maine Savings.

Abel Blood’s will provide a cash bar and a 50-50 raffle will be conducted. All proceeds support the capital campaign.

Contributions are tax-deductible and, if you believe you need a little polishing-up in the dancing department, dance classes will be offered 7-9 p.m. Thursdays at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA in Dover-Foxcroft.

The dance class cost is $10 per person, and all proceeds “are dedicated to the new building fund,” Mackey Andrews wrote.

Julie Arnold Lisnet of Ten Bucks Theatre announced its interpretations of the popular English comedies “Fawlty Towers” and “Monty Python” are back by popular demand.

Ten Bucks Theatre presents “The Kipper and the Corpse,” and “The Germans,” with the opening production at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at its new location, The Next Generation Theater.

This new venue is at 39 Center St. in Brewer at The Between Friends Gift Shop & Art Center, formerly Center Mall Antiques.

The show starts, at the same time Friday, Jan. 25; Saturday, Jan. 26; Thursday, Jan. 31; Friday, Feb. 1; Saturday, Feb. 2; Thursday, Feb. 7; Friday, Feb. 8; and Saturday, Feb. 9.

The matinee productions are 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27; Sunday, Feb. 3; and Sunday, Feb. 10, at the new location.

Julie Arnold Lisnet plays Sybil, and her real-life husband, Ron Lisnet, plays her husband, Basil Fawlty.

John Greenman appears as the Major; Hillary Roberts is Polly; Allen Adams is Manuel; and Arthur Morison will be seen in a variety of roles.

The box office is open a half-hour before the show, and accepts only cash or checks.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and students. College students must have school identification.

June Ranta Wilcox of Winterport and Steve Gifford of Brewer represent the Finnish Heritage House in South Thomaston.

They wrote the organization is “preparing exhibits about the Finnish settlement on the St. George Road (Route 131) in South Thomaston during the early decades of the last century, and Finnish involvement in the granite industry in midcoast Maine.”

Anyone with information about either topic to contribute to the project is asked to contact Wilcox or Gifford.

“Every detail, both large and small, is important in attempting to record our history,” they wrote.

The exhibits will be displayed through the summer at the Finnish Heritage House.

Jessie Mellott e-mailed that the Anah Shrine Mini-Bikes will hold their ninth annual Family Valentine’s Day Dance from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Shrine Hall on Main Street in Bangor.

The dance features a disc jockey, clowns, prizes for all children, pizza, drinks and snacks, she wrote, adding that “admission is all-inclusive with photos provided, and all ages are welcome to attend.”
