A female student at the University of Maine reported that she was sexually assaulted around 3 a.m. Friday. The woman lives on campus in a residence hall, but police don’t want to release the name of the dormitory because the investigation is ongoing.
“The victim identified the person she alleges to be the assailant as someone she knows,” UM spokesman Joe Carr said Friday. “The police are certain this matter doesn’t represent a danger to the public.”

Divers were looking for evidence in the Penobscot River that is possibly related to the cases in which police have received new information, Old Town police Detective Tom Adams said Friday.
“Right now, the river’s a little too rapid,” Adams said. “We’re going to probably have to come back to it.”
