The Hannaford Charitable Foundation has provided The Acadia Hospital with a $20,000 grant to help implement computerized physician order entry at the psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment facility.

Computerized physician order entry is designed to improve patient care and safety by helping physicians and other prescribers write orders appropriately. The system checks for incompatible drug combinations, alerts providers to the need for lab tests, and flags orders that are inconsistent with a patient’s condition. It also eliminates handwritten orders, which may be misread or inaccurately transcribed.

Acadia’s Keep the Promise Campaign has raised more than $800,000 to support the renovation of the children’s inpatient psychiatric unit, upgrade the Acadia Recovery Community and help construct additional space for substance abuse treatment. Technology upgrades are included in the campaign goals.
