SKOWHEGAN – Police were warning residents to be wary of a scam in which a telephone caller allegedly is representing the Franklin-Somerset Federal Credit Union and asking for personal information.
Several people in the Skowhegan area complained Thursday that a caller, supposedly from the credit union, requested bank patrons to provide personal identification numbers. The calls were being made from 781-583-7100 and 781-583-7108, according to a press release from Police Chief Michael Emmons on Thursday afternoon.
Credit union patrons were instructed to call 912-373-7478. A recording asks callers to enter a 16-digit card number, expiration date, and four-digit PIN. The recording then says the card has been activated.
Emmons cautioned residents to avoid calling the number and providing any information because the request is not from the credit union.
