ORRINGTON – Young Christian adults will gather at 5 tonight at East Orrington Congregational Church on the Johnson Mill Road to take part in a new interdenominational program called Christ Connected.
The Rev. Andrew Geaghan, the church’s youth minister, said earlier this week the evening was designed to break down walls between churches that sometimes keep members from working together.
“We’re not defined by denomination,” he said. “We are not confined by church walls. We are not individuals living for ourselves. We are the body of Christ. We are Christ connected.”
Members of Calvary Chapel, located on Route 15 in Orrington, along with worship leaders from Campus Crusade for Christ and other groups at the University of Maine, will participate. Other churches that will be represented include The Crossing-Bangor House of Prayer that meets at the historic Bangor Theological Seminary and Lighthouse Christian Cafe located in the Twin City Motel in Brewer.
“We are looking to make this a night of transformation, of worship, of prayer, of revival, led by the spirit with no walls, no boundaries, no limitations, proving to our communities that with God all things are possible,” Geaghan said.
The evening will include music performed by area Christian bands and singers including Geaghan’s band Modern Day Jeremiah. Other performers include the band TRE and dancer Becky Rogers of EOCC.
The idea for Christ Connected grew out of the youth minister’s experiences while traveling around New England and performing with the band at many different churches.
“We’ve seen that no matter what denomination we might belong to, we could all worship together because we have the similarity of the cross. We are really called to be one in the body of Christ. We want to work together to try and do that at least for one night. We’ll see if we can continue into the future.”
