CASTINE – Adam Haskell of Winslow had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists while pacing Maine Maritime Academy past the University of Maine-Presque Isle 82-55 in men’s basketball action Saturday.
Neil Stewart of Rangeley had 13 points and eight rebounds for the 8-7 Mariners. Derek DiFrederico of Millinocket chipped in 12 points and Jake Manner of Frankfort 11 points.
Ronald Spencer led 2-13 UMPI’s Owls with 22 points, all in the first half. Michael Latchford had 10 points and seven rebounds.

At Medford, Mass., Bryan Wholey capped a rally that erased a 15-point deficit with a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to force overtime and he scored Bates’ first six points of OT to spearhead the win.
Wholey wound up with a game-high 28 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Chris Wilson had 15 points and four steals and Jimmy O’ Keefe contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jon Pierce’s 21 points and eight rebounds powered Tufts.

BU ties, tops Maine
At Boston, Mass. Sunday afternoon, Laurel Koller (power play), Gina Kearns and Lauren Cherewyk staked Boston University to a 3-0 lead and the Terriers withstood a Maine rally to post a 4-3 triumph.
The teams battled to a 1-1 overtime tie on Saturday.
On Sunday, Vanessa Vani’s late second-period goal and Taryn Peacock’s early third-period goal pulled the Black Bears within 3-2 but Caroline Bourdeau scored into an empty net to sew it up with 32 seconds remaining.
Abby Barton capped the scoring with 11 seconds left.
Kearns had an assist to go with her goal and Melissa Haber made 26 saves for BU, now 8-11-3 overall, 5-5-1 in Hockey East.
Vani had two assists along with her goal and Peacock also had an assist for Maine, which is 2-19-3 overall, 1-7-3 in Hockey East.
Genevieve Turgeon made 23 saves.
On Saturday, Jennie Gallo scored with 2:02 remaining in the second period as the Black Bears rallied for the tie.
Amy Stech tallied the assist on Gallo’s goal. Turgeon made 45 saves.
Jillian Kirchner scored for Boston University on the power play in the first period. Allyse Wilcox stopped 19 shots.
