RUHPOLDING, Germany – Russell Currier of Stockholm finished 15th overall in the junior men’s 15-kilometer individual race Tuesday at the Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships.

Currier, who skis for the Maine Winter Sports Center team, was 3 minutes, 31 seconds behind Jean Guillaume Beatrix of France and had three penalties, all of which came in the first two shooting stages. That means Currier didn’t miss a shot in his final 10 chances.

“My first prone misses were low, and I got some corrections that helped in the second prone,” Currier said in a release. “Therefore, I just forgot about those stages and started over in the final two stages. … This was not my best day skiing. These are not the best conditions for me, although overall they were the best of the week.”

The temperatures on the course were about 50 degrees Monday.

A 2006 Caribou High School graduate who is competing in his fifth world junior championships, Currier was 15th in Saturday’s 10K sprint and 20th in Sunday’s 12.5K pursuit.

Leif Nordgren of Marine-on-St. Croix, Minn., was 10th in the 12.5K youth race, 48 hours after he won a bronze medal in the pursuit.

The championships continue today with the youth and junior women’s individual competitions.
