Mass. bill to protect nursing mothers

BOSTON – Nursing moms would no longer have to worry about arrest or harassment for breast-feeding their babies in public, under a bill making its way through the Statehouse.

The breast-feeding bill of rights would guarantee nursing moms the right to breast-feed in public and private locations.

It would also prevent nursing mothers from being labeled sex offenders by exempting breast-feeding from the state’s indecency statutes.

The bill was unanimously approved by the Massachusetts Senate on Tuesday and now heads to the House.

Supporters say it’s long overdue.
