Brewer

Talk on new JROTC

Chief Master Sgt. Steven R. Hughes will talk about the new JROTC Program at Brewer High School during the next meeting of the Brewer Historical Society at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Clewley Museum, 199 Wilson St.

Hughes teaches the Air Force JROTC program with Maj. Connie Hoksch. In its first year at Brewer High School, the program has more than 50 cadets.

Chappelle Music Fund

The Skyliners Dance Band, along with special guest musicians will play at a dance 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Old Town. The event will benefit the Byron “Buddy” Chappelle Music Fund for the Old Town elementary school music department.

Buddy Chappelle was a local dance band drummer for more than 50 years. He died Feb. 8, 2005.

Tickets for the dance are $8, $15 couple. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

Book signing and reading

A group of University of Maine faculty members who are among the authors of a recently published collection of essays, stories, plays, poetry, songs and art that reflect Franco-American life and culture in Maine will read from their work at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Franco-American Centre on College Avenue.

“Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader” was published in 2007 by Tilbury House in Gardiner.
