Maine Handicapped Skiing

Maine Handicapped Skiing will sponsor its third annual Winter Veterans-No Boundaries program Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, at Sunday River. Maine Handicapped Skiing is Maine’s largest year-round adaptive recreation organization serving more than 300 children and adults with physical disabilities.

The Veterans-No Boundaries program provides recreational activities to veterans and active duty personnel with a disability who may require adaptive equipment and techniques to participate in sports.

In addition to 23 veterans from the New England region, this year MHS will welcome three participants from the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project, a partnership between Disabled Sports USA, its chapters and the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides year-round sports programs for severely wounded service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The four-day event will include opportunities for Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, snowshoeing and a chance for social networking. Breakfast, dinner and lunch will be provided courtesy of donations from local restaurants and individuals.

There will be evening entertainment, including a casino night, and the Super Bowl.

The MHS Veterans-No Boundaries program invites a guest to attend with the veteran to try recreational activities together, or to enjoy the time to relax and reconnect.
