AUGUSTA – Josh Robbins, Zack Shellabarger, Kate Aldus, and Travis Spencer each captured individual titles to help the Belfast Lions win the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference wrestling championship at Cony High School Saturday.

The Camden Hills Windjammers finished second with 121.5 points, while Mount Ararat placed third (114), Morse of Bath fourth (94.5), and Skowhegan fifth (86) to round out the top five.

Belfast also gained the Class B title while Mount Ararat claimed the Class A crown.

Robbins defeated Brandon Wright of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield 11-1 to win the 119 crown by decision while Shellabarger also beat Ben Schutt of Morse by a 6-4 decision to capture the 145 title.

Aldus pinned Tyler Russell of Morse at 4:35 to collect the 160 championship and Spencer won by a 14-1 decision over Zach Chandler of Mount Ararat to take the 189 title.

The Lions also picked up valuable points with strong finishes for second, third, and fourth places: Jordan Young (103, fourth), Josh Wolfe (112, fourth), Kornealius Wood (135, third), Jimmy Spencer (140, second), Mike Rolerson (171, third), and Mark Smith (215, third).

Other wrestlers picking up individual titles included: D.J. Brackett of Morse (103), Matt Delgallo of Gardiner (112), Brian Parlin of Skowhegan (125), Sam Webber of Mt. Blue in Farmington (130), Cinjin Goewey of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield (135), Jack Simpkins of Camden Hills (140), Logan Russell of Morse (152), T.J. Vallee of Cony (171), Shawn White of Cony (215), and Sam Helm of Erskine in South China (285).

Russell was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler and Mount Ararat’s Eric Jensen was selected coach of the year.
