New Hampshire sweeps Maine
At Alfond Arena in Orono, second-ranked New Hampshire breezed to a weekend sweep of the University of Maine, beating the Black Bears 9-1 Saturday and 6-0 Sunday.
On Saturday, Leah Craig scored two goals and assisted on another by Micaela Long as the Wildcats blitzed the Bears.
Sam Faber and Jenn Wakefield each had a goal and two assists for 23-3-1 New Hampshire. Sadie Wright-Ward scored one goal and assisted on both of Craig’s while Stefanie Marty and Jennifer Hitchcock added a goal apiece. Kayley Herman made 16 saves on 17 shots.
Abby Barton scored for the 2-21-3 Bears with Pam Patterson and Taryn Peacock getting assists. Genevieve Turgeon stopped 37 of 46 shots.
On Sunday, Faber and Wakefield netted two goals apiece to pace UNH to victory.
Angela Taylor and Long each added a goal for the Wildcats. Lucy Schoedel stopped eight shots to earn the shutout.
Sarah Bishop stopped 51 of 57 shots for UMaine.
