BANGOR – The snow, sleet and rain that fell throughout most of Maine Friday caused power outages into the next day for hundreds of Mainers residing in Bangor Hydro-Electric Co.’s service area.

Nearly 900 Bangor Hydro customers lost power overnight, according to spokeswoman Susan Falloon.

Some of the outages were the result of a utility pole fire that caused a fuse to blow in Eastport. Others occurred after a car struck a utility pole in Howland, breaking the pole and bringing down lines at the intersection of Bennoch and Howland roads.

Central Maine Power Co. also responded to reports of outages, though they were scattered and relatively limited in scope. A total for affected CMP customers was unavailable over the weekend.
