Lawrence of Fairfield led 27-14, midway through the third period, but Brewer outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 the rest of the quarter, with O’Connell making a 55-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to draw the Witches within 29-25.
O’Connell made seven of eight free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter, and Brewer took the lead for good at 38-37 on a late basket by sophomore center Nate Carson. Carson then blocked a 3-point attempt by Lawrence’s Matt Perkins in the final seconds.
Bill Bissell added nine points and Dom Drake eight for Brewer. Perkins scored 11 points and Wes Sexton 10 for Lawrence.
