Residents of Trenton recently received a notice informing us the curbside recycling program is being discontinued. The reason cited is the lack of participation which renders the program not cost-effective.

This taxpayer has fervently utilized the service since its inception and probably has eliminated nearly half of this household’s trash by recycling. I was uncertain with whom I was more upset when I read this notice: the residents who ignored the service or the town manager who decided to scrap it.

We are now urged to jump gleefully into our cars, drive 30 miles round trip to the recycling center in Southwest Harbor, and continue our conservative duties. Now that is a green alternative.
