DAYTON – A 22-year-old Kennebunk man who hit a ditch and was thrown from his snowmobile while riding in Dayton is the third person to die in a snowmobile accident this year.

The Maine Warden Service said Mark Lank suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday.

A friend who was riding with Lank told investigators that speed was a factor.

The death is the third snowmobile-related fatality this year and the second in less than a week.

A 17-year-old Atkinson boy fell through thin ice on Sebec Lake and drowned Friday night while riding to a friend’s house in a winter storm.
