Oliver Blum of Greely High School in Cumberland Center has been named the 2007-08 Gatorade Maine Soccer Player of the Year. Blum is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May.

The senior goalkeeper allowed just six goals and recorded 14 shutouts this past fall, leading the Rangers (15-3-1) to the Class A state championship. The state’s lone National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American, Blum stopped 103 shots this season in addition to scoring two goals and passing for three assists. In five postseason games, he gave up only one goal, that on a penalty kick. Blum concluded his career with a .947 save percentage, allowing just 11 goals in 35 games.
