It has come to my attention that according to our 2008 calendar, the month of August does not have any specific recognition.

Every month of the year should have something, however trivial, such as Martin Luther King Day, Groundhog Day, the Rite of Spring, April Fool’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Aug. 9 should be “Good Government Day,” in recognition of the only president who ever resigned from his office. Richard M. Nixon said on Aug. 8, 1974, “Tomorrow at high noon I shall resign from my office,” and he did.

All hail “Good Government Day,” Aug. 9.
