PITTSFIELD – A national construction and engineering publication has named Peter Vigue, chairman of the Pittsfield-based Cianbro Cos., as one of the top 25 newsmakers of 2007.

“This is a significant honor for Pete and for Cianbro,” Tanya Pereira, Brewer’s economic development specialist, said Thursday.

Part of the reason Vigue was selected is Cianbro’s Eastern Manufacturing Facility in South Brewer, a modular manufacturing facility that is set to begin making the self-standing building structures in mid-March or early April with more than 500 employees.

“This modular approach will help stem Maine’s loss of skilled labor due to pulp and paper mill closings,” the Engineering News-Record Web site states.

Vigue’s plans to build a privately owned east-west toll highway from Calais to Coburn Gore is another project listed as a reason for his selection. A feasibility study is under way and should be completed in April, and Vigue said he hopes to construct the highway by the end of 2014.

As part of the honor, Vigue has been invited to speak at a McGraw-Hill Construction-Engineering News-Record gathering in New York City in April.

Pereira said Vigue’s selection “acknowledges that the impact Pete is having here [in Brewer] is being recognized around the world.”
