Gallant helps Bapst upset Old Town boys Crusaders vs. ‘Jammers today

OLD TOWN – Kyle Gallant scored 17 points to help the No. 11 John Bapst Crusaders knock off the No. 6 Old Town Coyotes 56-44 in an Eastern Maine Class B boys basketball prelim Thursday night at MacKenzie Gym.

Aaron Healey chipped in 14 points for the Crusaders of Bangor, who advanced to 3:05 p.m. quarterfinal today against No. 3 Camden Hills at the Bangor Auditorium. Camden Hills defeated No. 14 Hermon 82-71 Thursday night.

Mamadou Ba paced Old Town with 13 points. Ethan Shanley added 12 points and Dillon Shorey netted 10 points.

At Rockland, Anderson Murphy took Nick Baudanza’s inbounds pass and hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to rally eighth seed Rockland past ninth seed Gardiner.

Chris Nolan had hit two of three free throws to pull Rockland within 57-56 but in the rebounding following his miss, Gardiner lost the ball out of bounds.

Dylan Meklin had 16 points for Gardiner with Nolan and Tyler Patterson notching 12 each.

Kyle Stilphen’s 17 points, Eric Goodwin’s 16 and Mike Lavallee’s 12 points paced Gardiner.

Mortland also grabbed 10 rebounds. Adam Kingsbury had 14 points and nine rebounds and Bennett Cassidy contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Josh St. Clair and Derek Keller had 12 points apiece for Mount View, Tyler Miles scored 10 and Ethan Jean had nine points.
