Gov. Baldacci, one of Maine’s superdelegates for the Democratic National Convention, spoke in support of Sen. Hillary Clinton at the Feb. 10 caucuses for voters from Bangor precincts. He has publicly committed to voting for Clinton at the national convention in August.

We now urge Gov. Baldacci and former Gov. Kenneth Curtis, who has also committed to Sen. Clinton, to reconsider. Sen. Barack Obama won a clear victory in the caucuses. The record turnout underscores the fact that Maine Democrats want their voice to be heard in the selection of our party’s nominee.

If Baldacci, Curtis and the other eight superdelegates from Maine want to ensure that Maine Democrats are fairly represented at the national convention, they should commit to a distribution of their votes in a way that is proportionate to the outcome of Sunday’s caucuses.
