Edgar Crosby Smith wrote a 50-page chapter called “Sketches of Some Revolutionary Soldiers of Piscataquis County” in a 1910 book that goes by two titles.

Some libraries list the book as “Collections of the Piscataquis County Historical Society Vol. I.” I’ve also seen it cataloged as “Historical Collections of Piscataquis County, Maine, Consisting of Papers Read at Meetings of Piscataquis County Historical Society, also The North Eastern Boundary Controversy and the Aroostook War with Documentary Matter Pertaining Thereto.”

. Phineas Ames, Sangerville, born Oct. 26, 1757, in Rutland, Mass., to Samuel and Sarah (Ball) Ames. Married Mehitable Jewett.

. Enoch Brown, Sebec, born 1751, had resided at Arrowsic. Married Mary Angove.

. Ezekiel Chase, Sebec, born July 9, 1761, in Hallowell. Married Betsy Chase.

. Ebenezer Dean, Blanchard, born Dec. 5, 1760, fifth in descent from William Dean of Woburn, Mass. Married twice, second wife Jane.

. Allen Dwelley, Dover, born 1762 or 1763, possibly from Pembroke, Mass. Early settler of town of Paris.

. John Hart, Atkinson, born July 1766, probably Gilmanton, N.H. Married Elizabeth Stover. Also lived in Orland and Penobscot.

. Nimrod Hinds, Dover, born Jan. 12, 1758, to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Temple) Hinds in West Boylston, Mass. Fifth in descent from James Hinds of Salem. Early settler of Norridgewock. Married Betsy Pishon.

. Enoch Leathers, Sangerville, born Oct. 2, 1763, Dover, N.H. Married Mary Cilley of Westbrook. Lived in Buckfield, Brooks and Etna. Also served in War of 1812. Lived to be 94; the book includes his photo.

. Henry Leland, Sangerville, native of Sherburne, Mass., born April 30, 1761, to Henry and Mary (Morse) Leland. Married Sarah Phipps. Fifth in descent from Henry Leland of Dorchester, Mass.

. Zachariah Longley, Dover, born about 1758, son of Zachariah of Groton, Mass. Lived in Norridgewock. Married Betsy.

. Jeremiah Rolfe, Abbot, born 1759 in Buxton. Also lived in Buckfield, Paris, Foxcroft and Guilford.

. Isaac Royal, Dover, born March 10, 1765. Also lived in Frankfort. Married Tabitha.

. Eleazar Spaulding, Foxcroft and Dover, born Jan. 21, 1759, in Pepperell, Mass. Also lived in Norridgewock. Married Sarah Spaulding.

. Samuel Stickney, Brownville, born May 13, 1762, to William and Mary (Sawyer) Stickney, in Rowley, Mass. Married Irene Rawlings and Patty Atwood.

. Asa Sturtevant, Dover, born 1761 in Halifax, Mass. Also lived in town of Paris. Married Sally Washburn and Eunice Morse.

. Ichabod Thomas, Brownville, born 1757 or 1758 to Joseph and Eleanor Thomas in Duxbury, Mass. Also lived in Sidney, Williamsburg and Katahdin Iron Works. Married Mehitable Crosby.

. Thomas Towne, Dover, born Feb. 8, 1743, to Elisha and Mercy (Foster) Towne in Topsfield, Mass. Married Elizabeth Towne and Sarah Burton.

The book also includes chapters on the Crosby family, the Shaw family of Greenville and the Blanchard family.

See Dale Mower and Phil Getchell battle it out at the Penobscot County Genealogical Society meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Lecture Hall, Bangor Public Library. The topic is “Where to Place Your Documents and How to File Them.”

As program chairman John Van Dyke points out, this part of genealogical research may be the least fun, “and yet it is so important to be able find your sources should you need to revisit them. There is no one correct way, but we’ll look at at least a couple of options that might work for you.”

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church second annual Celtic Festival is scheduled for March 1-2 at the corner of North Main and Holyoke streets in Brewer:

. Quiet Day, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

. Irish Feast, 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, featuring traditional Irish fare. A silent auction will offer a wide variety of items on which to bid. The after-dinner program will feature traditional Irish step dancing by students of Bangor’s Thomas School of Dance, and the Bangor High School Irish Fiddlers.

The cost of the meal and entertainment is $10, $5 children age 10 or younger. Tickets, available by advance sale only, may be purchased at Thomas School of Dance, 14 State St., Bangor, or leaving a message at the church at 989-1308. Seating is limited to 80 attendees.

. Sunday, March 2, Celtic Eucharist, 10 a.m. Open to all, Episcopal or not.

3417. WHITE. Looking for information about ancestors from the Springfield area. My grandparents were Frank and Esther (McEwen) White. John Frank White was born Aug. 9, 1867, son of Benjamin F. White of Lee and wife, Eliza (Hunnewell) White, born in Topsfield. Esther was born in Kossuth to Hannah (Dill) and Oliver McEwen of Lee, who were married Dec. 19, 1894. I believe they all came from Canada, originally around Eel River. I’m from Houlton and my husband is from Dyer Brook-Island Falls area.
