AUGUSTA – Massabesic High School of Waterboro had to sweat it out, but thanks to brothers Joey Eon and Josh Eon, overcame a stubborn challenge by Noble of South Berwick.

The Eon Brothers scored all 11 of the Mustangs’ championship round points to help Massabesic edge Noble by four points and capture its second straight Class A wrestling state championship at Cony High School Saturday.

It came down to Josh Eon, who pinned Cony’s T.J. Vallee in the 171-weight class to earn an individual state championship and clinch the team title for the Mustangs. The clincher was set up by Joey Eon’st title match in 140, in which he beat Noble’s Steve Derosier by a 15-2 decision.

Cony was the highest-finishing Eastern Maine team in 10th with 29 points. Skowhegan was 13th (231/2), Mt. Blue 15th (23), Gardiner 16th (22), Nokomis 17th (16), Brewer 20th (three), and Bangor 23rd (one).

Two Eastern Maine wrestlers won individual titles as Sam Webber of Mt. Blue won the 130 division and Matt Delgallo of Gardiner won the 112 title. Brian Parlin of Skowhegan was third in 125.

Delgallo was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler and sportsmanship awards were presented to Nokomis of Newport (East) and Marshwood of Eliot (West).
