PITTSFIELD – A brief agenda for the Town Council this week mostly involves setting a series of public hearings for March 4.
The hearings include the purchase of a new water department truck, an address change for Cianbro Corp., acceptance of a grant, and tax anticipation borrowing.
The grant is a Special Projects Matching Funds Community Development Block Grant for $15,000. It would provide working capital for Global Contact Services’ new telecommunications center that is locating in Somerset Plaza, according to Town Manager Kathryn Ruth.
The company is hiring employees and retrofitting the former ICT call center at the plaza, said Ruth, and is on schedule for a March 5 opening. About 30 employees would open the facility which will eventually ramp up to 200 workers.
Tax anticipation borrowing is also set for a hearing. The town would obtain a $650,000 line of credit.
The address change would only be for Cianbro, not the rest of the properties on Easy Street, and is being sought to clear up delivery issues. The hearing was originally set for Feb. 19.
Council meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the council chambers of the municipal building on Somerset Avenue.
