WESTBROOK – Parts of downtown Westbrook were evacuated Friday after a natural gas leak possibly caused by a work crew striking a gas line.
Officials closed much of Main Street and Wayside Drive after the leak was discovered Friday morning.
Dan Friend said he was told the leak occurred when a crew was putting a utility pole in the ground. He said he was told to evacuate the area and could see the gas fumes in the air.
No injuries were reported.
