AUGUSTA – The fourth-ranked Richmond girls basketball team outscored No. 5 Forest Hills 15-6 in the third quarter and went on to win 56-53 in Western Maine Class D quarterfinal action Tuesday at the Augusta Civic Center.
Richmond advanced to an 11:30 a.m. Thursday semifinal against No. 1 Buckfield, an 85-29 winner over No. 8 Seacoast Christian of Berwick.
In the first game, Melanie Schanck scored 17 points to lead Richmond. Elise Begin paced Forest Hills of Jackman with 17 points and Crystal Allen added 11.
In the second game, Lindsay Henderson had 22 points for Buckfield, Ashlee Hamann scored 15, Kasey Farrington had 11 and Abby Jones chipped in 10 points. Emily Hennessey led Richmond with eight points.
