SCARBOROUGH – Cabela’s says it will be hiring up to 250 employees for the retail store in Scarborough that it plans to open in late spring.

The Nebraska-based outdoors outfitter’s 125,000-square-foot store near Exit 42 of the Maine Turnpike is its second in New England. The first, in East Hartford, Conn., opened last year.

Both were designed as destination stores with displays intended to attract tourists.

The company also announced the appointment of Daniel Whitcher, a native of Littleton, N.H., as general manager of the Scarborough store.

Cabela’s also has been planning to build a store in Hooksett, N.H.
